The story isn't great but it doesn't get in the way. Finished the story in about 6-8 hours the first time, and in 4 hours when I recently replayed it. You can generally get the game for peanuts now, it's probably worth a punt, but if you're not liking the sound of a game that comes down to a lot of running and jumping then maybe you skip it. I can listen to the title menu music for hours. The soundtrack is electronica by a guy called Solar Fields and really enhances the atmosphere of the game. It looks very clean/crisp and futuristic. It runs on Unreal, but Dice put in their own lighting engine and it does a lot for the game. Where there are enemies you're generally looking to avoid them, outrun or outmaneuver them.Īs I said before, the game is kind of an experience.
There is combat, there are guns, but most of the time you'll be running, most of the game is figuring out how to get from point A to point B along rooftops and through buildings using an array of "parkour" abilities. If you're hoping for a shooter, turn back now, it's not that sort of game. That said, I really enjoyed Mirror's Edge. I feel that needs to be said more when people ask for recommendations.
